The Crisis

We are facing a silent maternal mental health crisis in the United States. Up to 1 in 5 moms or birthing people experience a perinatal mental health condition - placing a $14 billion burden on our healthcare system and new families each year. With maternal mortality rising and inequities widening, the gap between the care pregnant and postpartum individuals need and the care they receive is no longer acceptable- especially when outpatient therapy simply isn’t enough. Too often, the only available option is crisis care: settings that can be traumatizing, costly, separate mothers from babies, and lack the family-centered supports needed to recover and heal.

75%
of pregnant and postpartum mothers who need mental health care never receive it

Black mothers are twice as likely as white mothers to experience maternal mental illness, yet half as likely to receive care
~50%
of U.S. states lack access to a single perinatal intensive treatment program

Our Mission

Expand access to treatment for perinatal mental health by fostering recovery, resilience and community for new families, while removing barriers to access care. Design care experiences and environments that heal, not harm.

Our Model

Shera Care seeks to expand access to specialized perinatal intensive treatment, strengthening the continuum of care between traditional outpatient therapy and crisis care. Our goal is not only to stabilize perinatal patients, but also to help them and their families recover, build resilience, strengthen relationships, find community, and heal. Stay tuned as we prepare to launch our first pilot clinic in Massachusetts.

Our model is designed to complement - not replace - existing providers, platforms, and systems: creating treatment pathways that improve access, continuity of care and recovery support for families who need a higher level of perinatal mental health care.

Our Commitment

Deliver Excellent Care.Design for Access.

As a public benefit corporation, Shera Care is being built around two complementary pillars: Care Delivery and Care Access - because clinically excellent care can only help families when they can access and connect to the appropriate care and resources in the first place.

Care Delivery

Develop specialized perinatal intensive mental health care that centers families, lived expertise, clinical excellence, equity, and community.

Care Access

Help perinatal individuals and families successfully access and connect to appropriate mental health care, resources, and community.

Our Story

Shera

Pronounced “SHARE-ah”

Rooted in sher, the Hindi word for lion, the name Shera honors our founder Kriti’s mother. From early childhood challenges through Kriti’s hospitalization for postpartum psychosis, Kriti's mother has always called her “my Shera”- a powerful reminder of Kriti's inner strength and resilience, as well as her family's love and protection.  Years later, Kriti was motivated to turn her pain into purpose and tackle the maternal mental health crisis as both an advocate and healthcare entrepreneur. In early 2025, she set out on her own national listening tour, visiting and consulting with leading perinatal intensive treatment programs, survivors, and experts across the country to reimagine how we design systems of care that heal, not harm. This is how Shera Care was born - a way to honor Kriti's family, culture, and community.

Today, our Shera lioness symbolizes the care, compassion and community we hope every family, every provider, and every partner finds with us.  Your Pride is Here.
